Shyamalan's Green Effect script reviewed
M. Night Shyamalan has a great record of films, whatever you might personally think look at hits, misses and returns in from them and he averages very, very highly. Now though his latest script is being passed over and no one really seems keen to make it. So imagine the surprise when it turns up online, reviewed, and reading superbly well.
I've read through the blurb of the opening scenes and the thoughts of the reviewer, and I have to say I have no idea why anyone would pass up on this. It sounds superbly dark and topical at the same time. Let me see if I can convey the idea of the script.
It's about the World becoming pissed off that human's are messing it up, and through the natural process of evolution it discovers a way to produce a chemical which drives people mad, turning them to suicide and murder. Not just suicide, but often bizarre forms of suicide.
Now it might sound a bit strange at this point, but if you give the review a chance and read the opening sections you really do capture the idea of it. If it does read exactly as the reviewer over at Latino Review through the cool Obsessed with Film says, then perhaps you can see where some scenes need a rewrite, but otherwise this sounds like a superb horror-ecological disaster film. Latino Review say:
Was Shyamalan’s quote too high? Was there a list of demands? I mean what? It can’t be the script because, I’m sorry, it’s pretty damn good! I enjoyed the hell out of it. It was creepy and has a very good theme and premise......Our recommendation for this script:
STRONG CONSIDER
It is just a good story told well and warrants a home.
We heard about his troubled script before, but this reading of a B+ makes me wonder if the problems aren't just down to Lady in the Water and if there's something more, because the script does sound like it's a good one.
