Daniel Dae Kim as Sulu. A KOREAN American man playing a JAPANESE American man. After all, no one would notice, right? No one can tell the difference. We all look alike anyways, right?

No doubt this will be a great movie. Providing you don't like Star Trek that is.

I have said it before and I'll say it again...

Those character are as much loved for the actors who played them as anything else. They are irreplacable.

We don't need Kirk, Spock and McCoy back because we still have close to 80 episodes and six movies with them in. Sadly with Kelley and Doohan gone and the others aging, only a time machine can reunite the crew now.

Be honest, how many great movies have emerged from this TV to Movie with a new cast stunt?

I think there's about five good movies in there and in two cases (Addams Family and MI) only on the second (or some would argue third in MI's case) attempt.

That's a great point Morbius, and superbly made. Do you think dud or hit in this case? I'm thinking towards a hit, after all the same guy brought MI back to life in my eyes.

I guess the new Star Trek casting might also bring in a new generation of fans (including myself) who have not seen an episode ever but might alienate the likes of Morbius.

Ironically perhaps as Leonard Nimoy appeared in a few seasons of Mission Impossible but the two programs cannot be compared.

MI went through all kind of character/cast changes during it's 1966 to 1973 run. It cannot be compared to the kind of devotion felt for the characters and cast of the original Star Trek which extends far beyond die hard Klingon speaking Trekkies to the man and woman in the street who usually don't like Science Fiction.

The real stupid thing about this is that the Star Trek franchise had already survived without the original crew with about 25 seasons worth of spin off shows and a great movie. (First Contact)

The concept (when done right) does not need Kirk, Spock, Bones and Scotty to work.

All it needs is some great new charaters and a very good story. In other words fresh ideas!

No matter who they pick they will still be in the shadow of the original cast .

Anyone who loves star trek, or like me has lived with it there entire lives. Must be sick to there stomache of the idea of this movie. THIS MOVIE IS GONNA BE THE WORST THING EVER TO HAPPEN TO STAR TREK. They are messing with the past when they should be looking torward the future. I don't care how good those actors are, they can't replace the orginals in any way shape or form. It's a sin that this movie might actually be made at all. If anything continue with the TNG cast or a new cast altogether. But to do a Kirk/Spook when they where young thing is totally moronic. And anyone who thinks it's a good idea is a idiot and not a trekie and needs to be shot.
