Star Trek XI casting rumours - are these Kirk, Spock, McCoy, Sulu and Scotty?

Rumours they may be, but I have to say that the latest casting gossip for Star Trek XI is looking superb. Imagine these names lined up to play Kirk, Spock, McCoy and Sulu. Stop for a moment, have a look, and realise just how good these guys look for the roles.

Now the warning goes out once again that these should be read with a handful of salt, as usual the story comes from a site and an unnamed source, so they just might not be true at all, and yet when I look at them I think they could well do it.

Matt Damon, as we heard, is confirmed by this source as being in talks for James T. Kirk, and well ahead in the negotiations.

Adrien Brody is in talks to play Spock. Now when you look at him you can start to see it.

Gary Sinise is said to be in talks for the role of McCoy or Bones, another excellent choice where you can see some likeness.

Finally the source talking to IGN says that Daniel Dae Kim is possibility for the role of Sulu, although these negotiations are far from being started.

Then there's the rumour of James McAvoy for Scotty which we heard a little while ago.

I actually think this line up could really work, they do carry a certain similarity to the original characters, and they are all good actors in their own right. Still, would some of these want to be associated with such a huge franchise? Damon, Sinese and Kim are used to franchise/series but Brody isn't.

What do you think of the cast list then? Sounding good? I think I really would like this lot to go through, although on that list Damon is the weakest choice for me.

Nobody is commenting on the rumours at the moment. What do you think of that possible line up for the new Star Trek?

For James McAvoy I'll be a Trekkie convert!

Now this is starting to look really good.

And how about some eye candy for the guys seen as mcavoy is there for the girls?

Do go on pablo .. any recommendations?? :-P

Famke Janssen - (thanks for reminding me rich)

Or how about, Scarlet Johansson - ok stopping there..

well one more Morena Baccarin

Boys, boys, surely your extreme fascination for Star Trek borders beyond female eye candy? Tell me, is it Klingon boxing?

Brody for Spock? Is that an insane joke? BRODY?

I have a really bad feelinf about this...

well, besides going a hunting and a fishing and a drinking, what else could a bloke need? :)

All that's left would be to hear kirk say...

"beam me up scotty"

Uh, I think Arnie should play Spock, no emotions, trained to kill, he's the machine!!! uh .. sorry couldn't help it ;)

Daniel Dae Kim as Sulu. A KOREAN American man playing a JAPANESE American man. After all, no one would notice, right? No one can tell the difference. We all look alike anyways, right?

if the above is going to happen, then this will be the worst casting ever.

No doubt this will be a great movie. Providing you don't like Star Trek that is.

I have said it before and I'll say it again...

Those character are as much loved for the actors who played them as anything else. They are irreplacable.

We don't need Kirk, Spock and McCoy back because we still have close to 80 episodes and six movies with them in. Sadly with Kelley and Doohan gone and the others aging, only a time machine can reunite the crew now.

Be honest, how many great movies have emerged from this TV to Movie with a new cast stunt?

Here's a list from Wikipedia...

The Addams Family,
The Avengers
The Beverly Hillbillies
Bewitched
The Brady Bunch
Car 54, Where Are You?
Charlie's Angels
Dragnet
Dukes of Hazzard
The Fugitive
I Spy
Lost in Space
Maverick
Miami Vice
Mission: Impossible
My Favorite Martian
Sergeant Bilko
Starsky & Hutch
S.W.A.T.
The Twilight Zone
The Untouchables
The Wild Wild West

I think there's about five good movies in there and in two cases (Addams Family and MI) only on the second (or some would argue third in MI's case) attempt.

Now count the turkeys and duds.

That's a great point Morbius, and superbly made. Do you think dud or hit in this case? I'm thinking towards a hit, after all the same guy brought MI back to life in my eyes.

I guess the new Star Trek casting might also bring in a new generation of fans (including myself) who have not seen an episode ever but might alienate the likes of Morbius.

Ironically perhaps as Leonard Nimoy appeared in a few seasons of Mission Impossible but the two programs cannot be compared.

MI went through all kind of character/cast changes during it's 1966 to 1973 run. It cannot be compared to the kind of devotion felt for the characters and cast of the original Star Trek which extends far beyond die hard Klingon speaking Trekkies to the man and woman in the street who usually don't like Science Fiction.

The real stupid thing about this is that the Star Trek franchise had already survived without the original crew with about 25 seasons worth of spin off shows and a great movie. (First Contact)

The concept (when done right) does not need Kirk, Spock, Bones and Scotty to work.

All it needs is some great new charaters and a very good story. In other words fresh ideas!

Why do you need to have an actor or director you like to be cast in a Star Trek movie to FINALLY show an interest?

Bah, it's like Jame Bond all over again!

Simone, go and watch ST 2, 3, 4, 6 and First Contact! 8-P

In any case if the movie is looking for a new generation of fans why use a generation of characters from the 1960's for a new Star Trek movie?

Because that's just me. ;)

Good point, but like I said, not having seen any of the episodes, it doesnt bother me personally.

Simone, go and watch ST 2, 3, 4, 6 and First Contact!

I wouldnt do that now or else I might turn out like you and be against this movie from being made. I want my James McAvoy! ;)

Then watch "Children of Dune".

It has been on my rental queue for a while now actually. ;)

No matter who they pick they will still be in the shadow of the original cast .

Anyone who loves star trek, or like me has lived with it there entire lives. Must be sick to there stomache of the idea of this movie. THIS MOVIE IS GONNA BE THE WORST THING EVER TO HAPPEN TO STAR TREK. They are messing with the past when they should be looking torward the future. I don't care how good those actors are, they can't replace the orginals in any way shape or form. It's a sin that this movie might actually be made at all. If anything continue with the TNG cast or a new cast altogether. But to do a Kirk/Spook when they where young thing is totally moronic. And anyone who thinks it's a good idea is a idiot and not a trekie and needs to be shot.

I'd like to see who will play the communications
LT. Uhura....Maybe Nia Long
