The Day The Earth Stood Still remade
The Day The Earth Stood Still is getting a remake. That classic 1951 film has been reported as coming out in the summer of 2008. There's no word yet on director, cast, writer, nothing other than Fox are producing.
The classic tells the story of how a space ships lands on Earth and a man like being tells everyone that they must live peacefully or die. As soon as he arrives he is shot by a soldier and his protective robot goes on a destructive rampage. The alien stops the robot and he is taken to hospital. He escapes and begins to learn something about the planet and the people. However he learns about the bad in people too.
Box Office Mojo carried the date rumour and then firstshowing.net carried it and confirmed it with Fox.
You know I struggle to see this being made into something positive, I can see that with the wrong team in place we'll just see another Independence Day type film. They really have to focus about the alien's connection with human's and his understanding of how uncaring and evil we can be. Otherwise it's another alien invasion disaster film.
Saying that though, it is perhaps one of the best times and climates (excuse the pun) for a story like this to come back to the big screens. Do you think it can be done?
