The Ruins from A Simple Plan author
The Ruins by Scott Smith is headed to the big screen. Why should you care? Well he wrote A Simple Plan
which was made into a superb film directed by Sam Raimi and starring Bill Paxton, Billy Bob Thornton and the much missed Bridget Fonda.
A Simple Plan was the story of two brothers who make a yearly pilgrimage to their father's grave. This year they come across the wreckage of a downed plane. The pilot is dead and there's $4 million in the plane with no one around...Some simple plan. It's an excellent film.
Now his latest book is set for the film treatment and will be directed by Carter Smith who is known for making music videos for some big names. The film tells the story of four friends on holiday in Mexico. While there they meet a German tourist and are persuaded to help him look for his missing younger brother who was last seen headed off to some ruins. They head off to help, and soon they regret ever getting involved.
It's billed as a horror-thriller, and if you want to read an excerpt Production Weekly has a healthy extract.
It sounds like a strong story, reads well from that brief section, and from the guy who write A Simple Plan I really can't knock it. In fact I'm going to look out for this one.
