Whedon dropped from Wonder Woman!
Bizarre news day to hear that after Goyer has been dropped from The Flash that another fantastic match has been axed. Joss Whedon has been dropped from Wonder Woman just a couple of days after the news came out that Joel Silver had bought a second Wonder Woman script.
Strangely at the time I offhandedly said:
"There could be various reasons for this, backup for Whedon's script in case it never comes through..."
Oh dear, is that actually the case? According to the news from Whedon's own site through Rope of Silicon it is. Whedon himself breaks the news:
I'm no longer slated to make Wonder Woman. What? But how? My chest... so tight! Okay, stay calm and I'll explain as best I can. It's pretty complicated, so bear with me. I had a take on the film that, well, nobody liked. Hey, not that complicated.Let me stress first that everybody at the studio and Silver Pictures were cool and professional. We just saw different movies, and at the price range this kind of movie hangs in, that's never gonna work. Non-sympatico. It happens all the time.
So that's that, another poor move if you ask me, although I do hold out hope that Silver will ensure something strong is produced, but Whedon could have produced something quite cool I think. No matter, they've moved on and those guys who were writing the World War II script of Wonder Woman look set to be the ones to carry it forward.
Interestingly he goes onto say that he had no one picked for the role and hadn't even got a forerunner in his head...then at the end he P.S.'s, possibly for fun or being serious, Cobie Smulders...
