Cruise gets accused by German Officers family

TomCruise.jpgSometimes I don't understand people. We heard that Tom Cruise is going to star in a film about the plot to assassinate Hitler by his own Generals, and it sounded like a really interesting project. However the inability of people to disconnect reality from fantasy has caused a little noise about the casting news.

The descendants of Claus Schenk Graf von Stauffenberg, the man who Cruise is set to play in the film, are objecting to the casting choice. Why? Well they fear that the film will be turned into propaganda for Scientology.

What? Cruise may be one of the producers and starring in the lead, but Bryan Singer is the director and Christopher McQaurrie have created the project, and it does look like Cruise is taking more of a serious look at his career and stepping down from the big blockbuster films.

Why would this turn into a piece of Scientology propaganda, and how could it? It's a story of how some Nazi Generals looked to turn against their Nazi leader and murder him. What has that got to do with Scientology?

He's a Father isn't he? Might it turn into a piece of propaganda about Father's rights? Wait, he's married to a woman, could it turn into a big piece of propaganda about hetrosexual relationships?

Oh this story in The Guardian really is making me scratch my head...

Focus, a German news magazine, has reported that Cruise is currently considering the role of von Stauffenberg...Claus Schenk Graf von Stauffenberg was the Wehrmacht colonel behind the July 20 plot to kill the Führer in 1944. The German officer placed a bomb in a suitcase under a table at a meeting Hitler was attending. The bomb detonated but was not strong enough to kill the German leader, although four members of his inner circle died in the blast. Von Stauffenberg was subsequently caught and executed...Entitled Valkyrie - the codename for the operation, named after the Richard Wagner opera...

..."I have nothing against him [Cruise] and can even separate his work from his beliefs in Scientology," Count Caspar Schenk von Stauffenberg, the officer's grandson told the Scotsman, which notes that the family is staunchly Catholic.

"But I and other family members are worried that the picture will be financed by the sect and be used to get across its propaganda," he added.

On one hand he says he can separate the two, and then on the next hand he's doing precisely the opposite. Then what's all this about some conspiracy about the Scientologists funding UA and this film and then using them to promote the Scientology agenda...through a Nazi film...

Over to you dear reader.

Richard, what did u expect from the descendents of a NAZI!!! Who else would understand propaganda better than a nazi or the descendents of one.

What a load. Sounds to me like someone just wants something to complain about...

Thanks for making me laugh so hard Richard, I needed that today!

Could this be a translation issue? Is it possible he was trying to say he didn't want Cruise or the Church of Scientology making money off of his family member's story that might then be used to promote Scientology?

Could be Hap, I'm not really that sure. However even then the issues still stands doesn't it?
