Jolie joins Wanted cast
There's another sign that comic book adaptations can be full of promise. Wanted has now picked up Angelina Jolie, adding to the strong cast of Morgan Freeman and James McAvoy, with Russian Watch trilogy director Timur Bekmambetov taking the helm.
If you look at the comic books you would have thought that Halle Berry and Eminem would have been more suited to the roles, but with McAvoy and Jolie playing the leads we're getting star quality, huge acting talent, and a strong track record. You might be thinking that the age of comic book adaptations is starting to peak.
For those of you who don't know the plot, I advise picking up the graphic novel, it's a very strong one, if slightly rushed at times. The story is about McAvoy, a young man who amounts to not much at all. One day a mysterious woman arrives and kidnaps him, killing people in the process and tearing away through traffic without the slightest interest from the police.
She's part of a secret organisation in which his long lost father played a major role. He was a super villain and before he was murdered he asked this woman, another super villain, to recruit his son, train him, and make him follow in his footsteps.
It's a cracking story, and I'm not going to go into too much of the plot - watch you don't get caught with reading too much on the story. Suffice to say the Scotsman Mark Millar produces an excellent piece of work.
The original script was written by Michael Brandt and Derek Haas, but according to Variety it was Dean Georgaris' rewrite that took her on board. He is the writer of Lara Croft Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life, and supposedly it was his rewrite of her character that grabbed her onboard.
Another excellently strong comic book adaptation coming to the screen, I really do hope they manage to adapt it properly.
