Rodriguez courts Depp and Banderas for Sin City 2
Johnny Depp and Antonio Banderas are in Sin City 2? Well not quite, Robert Rodriguez has been saying he'd like them and that he is pursuing them, so it might just be. Amazingly Depp was going to be in the first film.
"[Depp] was interested in doing the Jackie Boy character that Benicio [Del Toro] played [in the first one], but he was doing that movie 'Libertine' in Europe and it just kept getting pushed and delayed and went right through our shooting schedule...But there is a better role for him in ['Hell and Back']. I kept going, 'Gosh, Jackie Boy is a small part, he could be really good [as Wallace].' When he wasn't available, I thought maybe it was meant to be"
So there's no deal there, but the interview at MTV through Mania Movies does suggest there's a strong chance we'll see him in the film. That is if, as Rodriguez says, Depp was so keen to play the role originally.
It doesn't stop there though, the next part of the interview has more news, this time about Banderas:
"When I showed him the first sample of the work, he went, 'Man I'll do anything in that. I'll be the hunchback. You have to bring me onboard, that looks amazing,'...So Frank met him that time too and he said, 'I have got to find something for that guy. I've never met him before. He's amazing.' [So we're] looking at the cast of characters and [looking] to see where he can fit."
If these two are in then we're looking at a superb cast list. I mean it was looking that way already, but the names just keep coming and the anticipation ramps up. I do wonder that if they are going to be ending after the second film, especially if they are still attracting these calibre of actors.
