Barbarella gains Bond writers
We knew that there was a Barbarella remake on the go back in January, but now the rights have been officially secured and the writers of Casino Royale (Filmstalker review) are setting about updating the character for the modern day audience.
Previously we've heard that Peter Webber Director of Hannibal Rising is directing and the rumour that perhaps Sienna Miller would star.
According to the latest story from Variety the modern view of the character will be:
In the remake, the scribes will make Barbarella a free, modern gal who survives in a futuristic world through her intelligence, fighting skills and sexuality.
I'm still not sure about this, even if Dino De Laurentiis does fancy that the guys who took Casino Royale to the modern world, Neal Purvis and Robert Wade, can do the job. When you update the story to the modern day how will Barbarella be viewed? Is it possible to update this story though, I'm very much of the opinion that some films are of a time and this is most certainly one of them.
Talking of viewing, you can see the trailer for the original film right here on Filmstalker.
