Bullock chooses easy romance again

SandraBullock.jpgSandra Bullock isn't a rubbish actress, that's for sure, all I have to say is 28 Days or Crash (Filmstalker review) to prove so, yet she consistently stars in light hearted, wishy washy films which provide pulp entertainment and not much else. Indeed right now her latest film Premonition isn't getting the best of reviews.

Her next film is already lined up and it sounds utterly atrocious, just the same kind of romantic pulp that she's been doing time and time again. A nice and safe role for her that should return just enough at the box office as a date movie.

The film is called All About Steve and Moviehole have the plot for us:

the story centers on a brilliant crossword constructor who, after one short date, decides that a CNN cameraman is her true love. Because the cameraman's job takes him hither and yon, she crisscrosses the country, turning up at media events as she tries to convince him they are perfect for each other. She fails in this objective but falls in with a band of misfits who appreciate her for who she is.

Oh come on now, we all know you can pull out some cracking performances, why can't we see you stretch that range and give us some more? I really liked 28 Days, and her non-Bullock character in Crash was superb. Anyone with me?

I totally agree. I havent seen Crash but did enjoy her strong performance in 28 Days which I would have missed if Mortensen was not also part of the casr, I also thought her work in The Net was quite good and Jeremy Northam was yum. ;)

I'm with you Mr the Kid!

I've also liked Bullock. Besides the fact that she's hot, she's also a pretty decent actress. I like all that she is in - Miss Congeniality, Speed, While You Were Sleeping (excellent date movie), etc etc. Haven't seen Premontition yet, but hear it's horrible. Oh yeah, and the remake of The Lake House was unbelievably bad (the original, "Il Mare" however, is great!).

Simone - you haven't seen CRASH!? WTF!? Great movie and Bullock is sublime. If she wasn't nominated for a best supporting actress OSCAR, she sure should've been!

Agreed. She needs to tackle more meaty roles, because she definitely has the chops to do so. Nice post.

Thanks Drew. Much appreciated!

I have a friend like you who loves Bullock in every movie, although he cares little about the films!

While I was writing this I was thinking about how I could make a feature out of it...but just couldn't. So it's a post on its own.

Crash a superb movie and Bullock sublime? Oh yeah, if we believe in some scientists, that would happen in a parallel dimension.

Unfortunately, not ours. Simone, don´t lose your time watching the verbosic Crash.
