Clash of the Titans remake gains writer

ClashoftheTitans.jpgSo another classic falls fowl of the remake epidemic, however perhaps Clash of the Titans could work well with a remake, and with Lawrence Kasdan set to rewrite the screenplay, there might be a glimmer of hope.

For those of you who don't know Kasdan wrote the scripts for Empire Strikes Back, Body Heat, Raiders of the Lost Ark, The Big Chill, Return of the Jedi and Wyatt Earp while directing Body Heat, Big Chill and Wyatt Earp. He's set to rewrite the screenplay already created by Travis Beacham. The story comes from The Hollywood Reporter through Rope of Silicon.

The original tells the myth of Perseus and his battle against Medusa and the Kraken to save the Princess Andromeda, and through it all the Gods play their games.

Now I loved the original, and I still love seeing it again and again. For me it sits with the classics of the likes of another of Ray Harryhausen's special effects films Jason and the Argonauts. Brilliant stories with wonderful effects, focusing on the story more than the effects.

So will a remake work? Can they make it better? Well if they can keep the focus on that script I think it will work, but if they throw modern special effects at it without much else then I can see it failing. By all means exploit modern CGI, but remember the story. Can you see a Clash of the Titans remake doing well?

Like yourself, I truly loved the original, we would huddle as a family to watch it whenever it's on tv. I suppose a remake could work, I know I would see it anyway, much more so now if Kasdan is involved in rewriting the screenplay.

"falls fowl," says Richard subtly suggesting that this remake will be a turkey...

You know Paul, that's something amazingly refreshing, may I thank you for that. Another site admin who doesn't leap on a mistake to try and the site, and me, look dumb!

I mean it wasn't a mistake, what am I talking about! You were right, I meant that...ahem
