Dunst says no Spider-man 4 without her

KirstenDunst.jpgKirsten Dunst has been talking again about the possibility of a Spider-Man 4 and how that could, or couldn't, happen. She seems pretty adamant that there are three names that if they were missing mean it wouldn't work.

"Audiences aren't stupid. It'd be a big flop without me, Tobey or Sam,"

Entertainment Weekly article through Yahoo News carries the comment from Dunst. Meanwhile the president of Sony, Matt Tolmach, is confident of the film going ahead. He says:

"Listen, we're making Spider-Man 4. Our hope, dream and intention is to do it with Sam. But I don't have a crystal ball."

Who's right? Could they continue the franchise without these stars? Well I think they certainly could on both counts, although in order of importance it's Maguire, Raimi and then Dunst. Would you allow these names to be replaced and still watch a Spider-Man 4? Surely everyone can be replaced on a film set?

I think the Spider-Man movies could continue doing well. I mean, sure they may not be record setters at the box office, but they'll still bring in boat loads of money. It'd be nice to see the original faces for a fourth, but it's not happening and oh well. Someone else will fill their shoes and Spider-Man will live on.

I'd be much more inclined to wath it with no Dunst. Mary-Jane should have died in the first one. Bring on Gwen Stacy :D

Dunst thinks too highly of herself. She could be replaced by that acting icon Jessica Simpson and the film would be improved. I thought she was a bad choice for the role from the beginning.

What arrogance! The franchise can't continue without me? Please. X-Men had different directors... seemed to be no problem. Batman.. same thing. Dunst is the weakest character anyway.

But to be really honest. I would be happy if they never made another Spiderman movie ever again. I think they're uber-overrrated.

I think Dunst is really shooting herself in the foot with some of the recent comments she'd made. She should really learn that everyone is replaceable. That's not to say that the movie would be any better without her (or the rest of the crew for that matter) but the fact that's she's talking about it as if she doesn't do it, it won't work because she's not involved seems a bit conceited.

I think to be fair she was trying to bring the focus on Maguire and Raimi, but she would have to include herself...wouldn't she?

Personally though, I think she's the easiest replaced. After all does Spider-Man need a Mary Jane now?

But didnt she also mention Maguire and Raimi?

"Audiences aren't stupid. It'd be a big flop without me, Tobey or Sam,"

If she said Spiderman wouldn't survive without her period, then that's arrogance but mentioning the main actor and the director in her statement doesnt really sound that bad.

It has to be said that I am not a fan of the franchise, so it's not as if I am really bothered about her statement. ;)

Wow... I'm sort of happy but mad at the same time.
Kirsten doesn't realize that she could be replaced, but I hope none of them ever come to that point. I'm a die-hard fan of Spider-man and I think the three really improved the series. I've admired Kirsten since Jumungi but if she ducks out of Spider-man now, I'll be so disappointed in her. Same thing with Tobey. Just because you can replace them, doesn't mean it'll improve anything. The movies can't get any better than they are. There's still so much unanswered and I think the original Spider-man [Maguire] should be the one to get them answered on the wide [or small] screen. Spider-man WILL live on. Or I'll never watch any other movies with Dunst or Maguire or Sam again. So many people I know, including myself, would be tremendously disappointed.

Mina I think there's a strong following behind you on that one, and I agree there will be more Spider-Man films to come, but I suspect we'll see a break as Sam Raimi and the stars try other projects and the studio turns to other films including other superheroes.
