Foster in Nim's Island fantasy
Jodie Foster stays quite quiet these days, and that's a shame I think, she's very selective in her projects so that usually means we get something good when she appears. Her latest role will see her teaming up with Abigail Breslin from Little Miss Sunshine in a fantasy film called Nim's Island.
The story comes from the novel by Wendy Orr and Kerry Millard which is screenwritten by Joseph Kwon and Paula Mazur, and keeping with the duality of it all, Jennifer Flackett and Mark Levin are directing.
It tells the story of a girl who lives with her father on a remote island, he is a scientist exploring the island, and while his boat is stranded she uses her father's laptop to talk with a man called Alex, a friend of her fathers and the author of the novel she's reading. He teaches her about building a raft while she keeps her spirits up with his conversation.
The news comes from Variety through SciFi Wire.
Sounds an interesting tale, but according to a reader review on Amazon, Nim's Island needs you to suspend a lot of disbelief to keep going with the story, although it is fantastic for kids. Seems like Foster might be taking up a pure children's story, which is a shame for us adults because she can be absolutely stunning in thriller type roles, particularly when she's not such a goody.
