Indianapolis 500 film in development

Indy500.jpgA screenplay is underway for a film about the Indianapolis 500 race, how the speedway was started and the first long oval race was held in 1911.

According to Variety through Latino Review Justin Escue is set to direct with Angelo Pizzo writing the screenplay. The best part of this is Pizzo wrote the superb Hoosiers with Gene Hackman.

Now I'm a huge motorsport nut but controversially I think the Indy 500 is dull, still there are a lot of fans and I can see this being a huge hit, especially if carried with the human feel of Hoosiers.
