Butler leads futuristic Game

GerardButler.jpgWell Gerard Butler seems to be avoiding that remake of Escape from New York just now by signing up with the creators of Crank (Filmstalker review) on a futuristic thriller called Game.

Two of the guys behind Crank, Mark Neveldine and Brian Taylor, have written the script and will also direct the film which is set in a future where implanted nano-devices are commonplace and the ultimate online game is where humans remote control other humans all over the world, multiplayer online gaming for real. Gerard Butler is to play the worlds top ranked player in a game called Slayers, you can guess what that's about, and he finds that he's losing his own identity. For some reason, not yet mentioned, he starts fighting the system and decides to bring it down a la Matrix.

The story from Variety doesn't give us anymore details, but already we know that the big concept is going to be full on excitement if Crank was anything to go by.

At least this keeps the proposed remake of Escape From New York delayed. It doesn't look like there's going to be much room for romance in this one, but there will be plenty of action and possibly more rippling muscles!
