New Japanese horror Yoroi
There has been a lot of talk about Japanese Horror becoming very similar and following the same conventions that brought it to a wider audience with films such as Ringu. Well now two Japanese producers are pulling together a new horror Yoroi, which they say will change Japanese horror.
"Yoroi does not involve a girl with long hair, nor a videotape, cell phone or a camera. Rather it will go to the next level"
That's the comment from Ryuhei Kitamura, the Director of Clive Barker's Midnight Meat Train and Versus, through Variety.
Shinya Kawai is the other man behind this new horror project that is about a hostage family, robberies and samurai zombies - it's that last part which sounds the strangest.
I think Japanese horror has to move on from where it has been ade famous, but those behind the move have to be careful that they follow what has been successful and don't walk away from it. The slow, creeping horror that is often more to do with the build up than the reveal is what is needed. I fear samurai zombies is not going to hit that mark.
