Penn talks next X-Men film
Zak Penn has dropped an interesting comment about the future of the X-Men franchise. We had heard previously from Fox themselves that a spin off film was being made with the kids from Xavier's school for the gifted, the young X-Men characters. However Penn has some news on that.
He acknowledges that there was a move to create a film along those lines, something I wrote about before and the Fox Production President had said:
"We've also talked about doing something on the kids in (Professor X's) school, focusing on their lives, and less of a global adventure for the team...The studio is also exploring a movie with Three Kings director David O. Russell based on the character of Emma Frost, a sexy mutant telepath who can transform her skin into diamonds."
Well now according to JoBlo who carry the Cinematical story, Penn is saying that:
"The original idea was to have me do a young X-Men spin-off," he says, "But someone came up with a pretty interesting idea which I can't discuss. I was pretty taken by it, as was the studio. I have to give him credit, it was this guy who worked with me named Mike Chamoy -- he worked a lot with me on X3."
Penn says he's in dicussions with the studio and there's lots still to work out on it, but there's some other idea there that is more exciting. Frankly I think there's loads more exciting rather than leaping to the school kids first, however I'm not in charge, and perhaps this new story idea looks somewhere else too.
What would you rather see next in the X-Men series? Forgetting Wolverine and Magneto because they are on the way, what other characters? Now don't just think about your own likes, try to think from a studio standpoint too, that means profit.
