Despite both Shawnee Smith and Darren Lynn Bousman saying that the character of Amanda Young will not return in the next franchise excursion for Saw, Saw IV, there's a rumour going round that she most definitely is going to be.

Bloody Disgusting were the guys who came out with the rumour that Donnie Wahlberg would be in Saw III, which everyone doubted until he appeared. Well now they are doing the same for the return of Shawnee Smith as Amanda Young in Saw IV, and they are sticking by their guns.

Frankly I wouldn't be surprised. The story is going to pick up from where it left off and there will be loads of flashbacks, as there always are. So there's no surprise it might include Smith.

The other aspect is the theory I'm carrying that she was never Jigsaw's proposed replacement, but was herself a set up for who would become the new Jigsaw…however what do I know, I've been wrong before!
