Smokin' Aces prequel
Joe Carnahan has revealed that he will be making a direct to DVD prequel for Smokin' Aces, and that despite his reluctance he thinks it's a great idea.
Universal asked him if he would be interested, presumably off the back of the high DVD figures, and Carnahan hints at a reluctance, perhaps to do direct to DVD, but then explains why he's decided to do it anyway.
"Whatever reluctance I have is alleviated by the fact that we canreally do this balls out, hardcore prequel and not be constrained by ratings or any other puritanical MPAA bullsh*t. That I love."
His comments on his own blog are pretty clear why he would want to do it, and indeed why anyone would. I wonder if this means it might be an all out R rated film, and will the stars still be on board?
I presume that the budget will be a lot smaller, but then I do think that Carnahan might be able to persuade some of these names to leap on board without the huge salaries. Saying that I don't really think it is about the stars, but there's no doubt they added a lot to the film.
What would you like to see in the prequel to Smokin' Aces (Filmstalker review), what would you want to see more of and what would you want less of? What do you think could be done better, and what would you want from the story? A return to that young agent infultrating the Mafia?
