The Flying Scotsman soars in New Zealand
The Flying Scotsman (Filmstalker review) has seen its first release in New Zealand, and I've just received word of how well it's doing. Actually there are two words, very well.
Obviously helped by my poster quote(?!), the film has just managed NZ$78,089 in 31 screens in the first weekend. Now that's a pretty respectable taking considering The Last King of Scotland (Filmstalker review) managed NZ$46,243 in 21 screens and The Queen NZ$42,651 in 36 screens.
As a comparison, according to the Box Office Mojo figures, Casino Royale (Filmstalker review) seems to be one of the biggest openings playing to 92 screens. So you can see that these were smaller releases, and yet the figures for The Flying Scotsman are showing above average for 30(ish) screens.
Well done The Flying Scotsman, and well done everyone involved in the film. It is a great film so go and see it if you haven't yet, and if you have, if you're one of the New Zealanders who popped in over the weekend, drop in a comment and tell us what you thought of it, and if you've seen the poster!
