We Own the Night trailer online

JoaquinPheonix.jpgWhere did this film come from? The trailer for We Own the Night has arrived online, before I even knew the film was out there, and it looks really strong. With the superb Joaquin Phoenix who I can never praise enough, and Mark Wahlberg, Eva Mendes and the cracking Robert Duvall, you already have an idea of how good this could be. There's more though.

The film is set in New York, at a time when police are fighting with Russian gangsters, trying to stop them from getting a tight hold on the city. Joaquin Phoenix plays an exclusive nightclub owner whose brother, played by Mark Wahlberg, is one of the police trying to bring down the mobsters alongside Robert Duvall. Eva Mendes is playing Phoenix's girlfriend.

As you can see from the trailer the mobsters are holding up in the nightclub and the police can't get near them, so Phoenix character's brother uses him to try and get close. At first he's reluctant, but then tragedy hits and he's pulled right into a fight he wants nothing to do with, and the fight involves saving his brother and father from Russian hitmen.

The trailer for We Own the Night is over at official French site through the cool Obsessed With Film. What do you think? Strong, emotional, human, conflict and tragedy, I think it looks pretty good.

Good ol' fashioned cops and robbers (with a family touch). Looks great. I like the idea of cops as family and the bad guys as family. It's like two wrring families.

However, the trailer could've been soooo much better had they not included that incredibly cheesy song about half way through. Otherwise it looks terrific (Eva Mendes accounts for a lot of that... ay ay ay).
