Black Water Transit replaces Jackson and Willis

BlackWaterTransit.jpgTony Kaye replaced Samuel Bayer for directing duties on Black Transit, the film adapted from the Carsten Stroud novel, back in February, but it has just been announced that the cast to date have been replaced. Now that's no small thing considering that the cast were Samuel L. Jackson and Bruce Willis.

The news is that since Tony Kaye arrived Samuel L. Jackson and Bruce Willis have departed. There's no reason given by the story in Variety, but replaced they are.

Instead it seems that Laurence Fishburne, Brittany Snow and Karl Urban are set to star.

The story is about Jack Vermillion, most likely played by Laurence Fishburne and previously played by Jackson, a man who wants to try and get his son moved from a maximum security prison. To do this the authorities want something in exchange, and when he is approached by Earl Pike, perhaps now played by Karl Urban and previously played by Willis, to move his rather large personal gun collection overseas, Vermillion passes it to the feds. However, the arrest goes terribly wrong and people are left dead on both sides. Now both Pike and the authorities are after Vermillion.

I've actually just ordered the book (Amazon.co.uk / Amazon.com) and I'm looking forward to reading it in the next month, when I do I'll have a review online to compare with the film.

Has anyone else read it? What do you think about the Fishburne - Jackson and Willis - Urban replacements? In the first case I think it's a good switch, in the second I'm undecided, is Willis a better choice than Urban?
