Kevin Spacey's film career over?

KevinSpacey.jpgKevin Spacey is a superb actor, of that there's no doubt, so it is incredibly sad news that according to reports he's confirmed the rumours that have been around for some time, he's done with acting.

According to the actor himself he's really not interested in his personal film career anymore, he seems fed up with the whole Hollywood system:

"I don't care about my personal acting career anymore. I'm done with it. After 10 years of making movies and going better than I ever could have imagined, I sort of had to ask myself, 'What am I supposed to do with all of this success that I have had?'

Am I just going to keep making movie after movie and be concerned with all of that 'Are you up, are you down, are you hot, are you not?'--and I don't really care

What I really care about is the remarkable experience of being able to be a part of bringing people together."

That's the quote on WENN through Hollywood.com, and although it's not definite that he won't ever be in a film again, it does sound like it's not that important to him.

I hope it means that he will still appear in film when the roles are right, but it doesn't seem that hopeful right now, and I think that's a terrible shame. Just look at some of Kevin Spacey's incredible roles.

Glengarry Glen Ross, Swimming With Sharks, The Usual Suspects, Se7en, Outbreak, L.A. Confidential. Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil, The Negotiator,American Beauty,K-PAX,The Shipping News,Goldmember, The Life of David Gale, Beyond the Sea and Superman Returns...

Now we could well be missing him from our screens. I honestly hope this is a misquote and we do see him in some selective roles. What do you think, will you miss him? What were your favourite Spacey roles?

Last year, in the successful play A Moon for the Misbegotten, I had the privilege of watching a brilliant Kevin Spacey perform at the Old Vic Theater where he's now on his 4th year as its artistic director and he looks so at home on the stage. If you want to see more of Spacey then head off to the Old Vic, his next play that he will star in is David Mamet's Speed the Plow.

I do mourn that he will bow out of the silver screen but I suppose real actors find much more sense of fulfillment in the theater than making movies, and I don't blame him at all. And he seems to be one of those whose not in it for the money either.

My favorite Spacey roles are from L.A. Confidential, The Usual Suspects, Se7en, American Beauty and Beyond the Sea. I have yet to see hijm in The Life of Davod Gale and Glengarry Glen Ross.

"real actors find much more sense of fulfillment in the theater than making movies"

Do you think that's really the case, or do you just think that's with Hollywood movies? That one interests me because I've heard that comment so often, but were it wholly true why does, for example, Kenneth Branagh keep coming back to the big screen?

Of course, I should have said Hollywood.

At the end of the day some of these actors also need to live on something, it is still their bread and butter. I suppose with Spacey (whether this rumour about him quitting Hollywood is true or not) he has reached the saturation point and now he wants to give something back, I forgot how much of his own hard earned money went to the Old Vic, and how he's committed to his new role. I am not sure about Kenneth Branagh, as I am not really that familiar with his stage work, and have only seen a few of his films.

I am both a huge fan of the movies and the theater but I have always felt that the theater is more of the actors medium while a movie is more of the director's. Nothing wrong doing both of course, because as their audience, we are entertained whichever way, but for some of these actors, like Spacey, maybe it's that sense of fulfillment thing. Why dont you and Z come down to London and let's watch one of his plays!

"You Go Kevin" I know where everyones comeing from but lets stop and look ant what a remarkable statement this man , Mr Spacey quoted," "I don't care about my personal acting career anymore.

Aborb just how remarkable a successful human being is still finding a bigger meaning for his life and others as well. Kevin seems to be saying to me , is that hes tired of one art, and is recreating what he can by the finanes and oppertunity stardom has given him. That is so rare of a quality and I feel it is one that desereves a standing ovation. "Bravo" A man that knows what he wants , has the means to create it, and absorb all he can taking such pupils into a world that is desperatly in need of. "Reaching out Kevin ? Ill grab hold , He as his personality shows me, changed my life, I write scripts for plays ,a fantastic originals ones,He has inspired a writer aartist, designer, inventor loner ,... me to advance myself to challenge and motivate myself , and I ve never met the man. And if this pure art form we call life ,and meaning ,for the artists everywhere , my voice might be a reason to hope for a better life.As for a once and still ,twice exceptional gifted child ,alone now at 39, to start living in that kind of world. I try to live in a world where if Im up real early, still sundown , but a hint of light and birdsong flutter everywhee. You have no other choice but to be the audience, looking upward, wanting to know what their songs are to eachother . Those busy beautiful birds at dawn,.. But is the dawn? I dont think it is .It is a moment in time where one appricates that quiet minute where we are able to hear the birds and nothing else. Yes ,they sleep , they wake, but they stay awake all day, I feel its mankind whom gets to be the busy bodiness themselves, and the machines , motors ,rings, and voices ,starts the day of human race . I never forget the birds, as the day moves on through. I try very hard to pinpoint their conversations sometimes tripping over my own feet cause my attention is at the sky. Ask yourself, "How many others think their is a dawn or a dusk ? Wait for the respone ",. It is mankind and the world at eyelevel or on the ground, the orgeshtra is in its own confusion .But the birds are still singing, Kevin Spacey wants to sing . I wait for the moment to see him feel free and fly into a majestic pure artformd world that , as most true artists apprieciete .Allot more expecially when they can do what they were meant to, without staying in a state of mass confusion or gossip, His privacy ,like ours we all have a right to a normal private life. Perhaps now, Kevin Spacey can have a big big break in success and in happiness with his human life just like any body else, "GOOD FOR YOU KEVIN". A man to learn from. I totaly respect the fact that ,he remembers what "HE" can do ,with all that life has granted him. It opened a huge window for me today,. He is one whom moves me. It would be a privlage and honor to have a conversation with the man personally , privately, as artists do everyday. they sing.Sing baby sing !
