The Historian vampire tale gets a writer
Elizabeth Kostova's first novel, The Historian (Amazon.com / Amazon.co.uk
) was bought before it arrived on the shelves some two years ago but has never seen a writer, but now that seems to have changed as Bradley Caleb Kane is set to start writing the first draft.
According to the studio who bought it the've never found someone who could modernise the vampire myth in a believable way - strangely Kosotova seems to have done it fantastically well, and she's a writer...maybe that was too obvious, perhaps better to wait two years just when another Dracula film is in the works.
The book tells the story of a young woman searching for her father who is on the hunt for Vlad the Impaler, the source of the Dracula mythology.
According to Douglas Wick from the studio, who speaks through Variety, there's some very good reasons for picking Kane:
"One of the things we've been looking for is someone who could not only capture the visceral, sexy part of the story, but who also has the talent to make it credible"
Well if they were searching for the right person and they took two years to do it, we shouldn't really knock them. At least they haven't been fastracking some half hearted money earner to the big screen.
Has anyone read the novel and could give a critique of the story?
