William Hurt joins The Incredible Hulk

Hulk.jpgThe Hulk sequel, The Incredible Hulk, is hurtling onwards with even more big names joining the cast. Now we're hearing that William Hurt has signed up to play General Thaddeus "Thunderbolt" Ross, the father of Betty Ross, played by Liv Tyler, and the man intent on capturing the Hulk/Banner, played by Ed Norton.

With Tim Roth now cast as Emil Blonsky/Abomination, it is clear that this sequel is not going at it half heartedly. I'm actually amazed at how they've managed to secure such a big cast as they have considering how poorly the original Hulk fared.

Genuinely I'm surprised at the news from Reuters through Yahoo News. So now they have Ed Norton, Tim Roth, William Hurt and Liv Tyler on board this comic book film which is a sequel to a poor performer at the box office. To think of those names together on a film like this is very surprising, I don't care how much of a fan you are of Hulk, you could not have imagined those names being involved, especially after the first film.

What this does mean is that Louis Leterrier had better do a good job directing The Incredible Hulk and that this is the last chance for Hulk. I really can't see him making another high brow appearance like this unless it turns out to be a whopping success in the ranks of Superman and Batman.

I'm assuming the script is good, because I doubt these people have signed on because of Louis Leterrer.

Yea, as much as I like the Transporter films and Danny the Dog, it was Ang Lee's art-film take on the original HULK which made is so great (up to those last few electro-Nolte scenes where I threw up my hands in disbelief!).

Bana was the right choice, as was Sam Elliot for Gen. Ross. As much as I love Hurt (especially Dark city and History of Violence) I'd rather see him in more interesting movies...same goes for Ed Norton.

I have almost Zero interest in this new Hulk, because they will overcompensate on the smash factor to make up for the perceived disappointment of the first one.

It's a shame really, as I do love Ang Lee's film, it's probably my favorite big budget super-hero film....Yes, Seriously. (in all fairness, I'm not a big fan of the genre though)

Kurt I'm with you. I think the first film is a lot of fun, if you remove a few things:

* The continual leaping of the Hulk
* The insanely stupid dog creatures
* The insanely stupid water based baddie

Kurt: Doesn't the fact that Hurt has signed on lend credence to the idea that this will be "more interesting"?

If I did a top list, most of these actors would be in it. Definitely looking forward to Hulk 2 given the continued casting news.
