Cloverfield new site, set photos, plot reveal and filming details

Cloverfield.jpgJ.J. Abram's not so secret monster movie Cloverfield is continuing to prove to be a marketing mystery. We've had the great teaser appear and start to get us going, and then the teasing website, and then a slew of other sites appeared which seem to have been discredited. Now there's another new site, some realing plot details, and a few alleged set shots.

Before we leap into what we know and all the new additions, you have to ask yourself if you're being drawn into this already. Frankly I am. I'm feeling myself being caught up in the hype and starting to get excited about the film, and I'm also trying desperately not to spoil anything for myself, and yet it has me firmly in it's marketing grip.

So here are the many Cloverfield updates on the websites, the plot reveal, some of the filming that's been happening and a shot or two that are reported to be from the set itself.

So first we saw the Cloverfield trailer appear online, captured with a handheld device in a cinema before Transformers. Luckily that has since been replaced with the proper Quicktime version which revealed a lot more than the low resolution shaky camera.

Then the 1-18-08 site appeared, teasing with that single photo, a site that was quickly attributed to the film. There are now a few more photo's on the site, and people are going mad trying to see images and connections in the photographs.

The next we heard were from a number of different sites that were reportedly connected to the film, these included the two Ethan Haas sites. These have all since been discredited as either fake or, in the case of the Ethan Haas sites, belonging to something totally different, but one has remained at the fore, Slusho.

AICN were lucky enough to get a comment from the man himself, J.J. Abrams, who revealed that the Ethan Haas sites were nothing to do with his film, and that the only legitimate site that had been found so far was the 1-18-08 site.

This suggests that there are more sites, and that seems to be coming true as the rumour mill goes crazy over the site Slusho. Apparently Slusho, the fictional drink, has been mentioned in Abrams' Alias before and according to UGO it also appears on a T-Shirt of a character in the Cloverfield teaser.

Over at IGN through HorrorMovies.ca they discovered that there was also a film shooting in LA that was going under the name of Slusho, and that it would include:

"Exterior dialogue. Driving scenes. Occasional traffic & pedestrian control. Camera & equipment on sidewalk, street and property. 200 extras. Military vehicles. Destruction aftermath. Weapons brandished. Emergency vehicles with flashing lights. Exterior dialogue on fire escape on 8th floor"

AICN have broken some more information and this time it's about the plot. According to the site the film starts in a similar manner to Blair Witch, where the story is actually over and the rescue/clean-up crew find the camera equipment with the film of what happened. The story actually looks backward in time at past events.

According to the NY Post, a small crew that included Abrams, Director Matt Reeves, and some of the actors, visited Coney Island and filmed various scenes of the film.

"They shot several scenes at Deno's Wonder Wheel, a scary swinging Ferris Wheel in which patrons ride in cages as they look out over Brooklyn."

One of the owners of the park revealed a little of the film:

"It's about an alien that wipes out all of New York City…The footage is taken the day before everyone dies. A bunch of kids come to Coney Island with a video camera. The movie is a flashback to that day."

Now you can see two set shots that are supposed to be from the actual film over at /Film. It is hard to say but I would think that the first one looks pretty close to what would be needed from the film.

Information is coming out that fast, as soon as people hear or see anything connected to Cloverfield they're talking. It really is hard to keep something secret in Hollywood, and even though I'm desperate to find out more, I really hope they manage to keep it quiet. After all, just imagine the reveal happening on screen, that's far better than learning too much about it online!

a remake of "the blob"

This is looking scary, then again my own reflection makes me jump. :)

One day i will have to watch a proper horror movie, at night time, by myself, with un-oiled window shutters left open, but don't make me!!!!
