Rickman versus Grant in Wine films

HughGrant.jpgRecently we heard that Alan Rickman was joining a film that would look at the birth of the Californian Napa valley wine industry, now there's news that a rival film may be in the works and that Hugh Grant may be picking up the same role as Rickman.

We heard that Bottle Shock was set to star Elisha Dushku, Bill Pullman, Alan Rickman, Chris Pine and Rachael Taylor, and would look at the time when the first Napa Valley wine was entered into a world wine competition and beat the French wines causing great controversy. Rickman is set to play the wine expert Steve Spurrier.

Now, according to Teletext, there's another film about the 1976 wine event, and Hugh Grant may be in the same role if negotiations continue. This film, Judgement of Paris, is apparently set to star George Clooney and Keanu Reeves.

It's great that these films are bringing something a little different to Hollywood in terms of their stories, but I'm not sure how interesting the subject will be on film. Still, it's not surprise that they are pitching two films against each other, although it is that George Clooney and Keanu Reeves are in the second film.
