American Gangster gets praise
There's a few words online about the first screening of American Gangster from Ridley Scott, and the word is that it's really, really good.
The reviewer said that Denzel Washington's performance as the bad guy is superb, and that Russell Crowe's as the detective chasing him is close behind.
What's perhaps the best news from the early words of a friend of Jeffrey Wells over at Hollywood Elsewhere, is that it isn't in Ridley Scott's usual stylised...well, style. In fact he compares it more to a 1970's Sidney Lumet thriller...
"accents, atmosphere, facts, character, flamboyance"
Now that does excite me. I think sometimes the Scott brothers can go a little too far with their admittedly superb style and that this sometimes we miss a slice of their brilliance, It seems that with American Gangster we won't be missing it at all.
Have a look at that trailer again to see what is in store from Denzel Washington and Russell Crowe.
