Campbell is holding up Bubba Nosferatu
Bubba Nosferatu and the Curse of the She-Vampires, the sequel to the excellent Bubba Ho-tep (Filmstalker review) is being held up by the star who plays the ageing Elvis, Bruce Campbell according to the other headliner Paul Giamatti.
The first Bubba film is superb, and not for the obvious reasons you might think when you first read the plot, have a look at the review to find out more, the sequel is a much wanted film with fans of the first and was written after there was so much appreciation for Ho-tep.
Bubba Nosferatu and the Curse of the She-Vampires may well show Elvis teaming up with Colonel Parker, played by the excellent Paul Giamatti, to fight the dreaded She-Vamps. Sounds crazy, as did the first, but it was such a great film.
Problem seems to be though, according to Giamatti through /Film, Bruce Campbell is the one holding up the sequel.
“Bruce Campbell was waffling around about whether he wants to play Elvis or not again. So that’s the problem...You gotta have Elvis and you really want him playing Elvis, so hopefully we can get him to do it. If not, I’m sure they will try and find somebody else but I think it’s contingent on whether he’ll do it or not. It’s a great script, a completely insane script. I would love to do that because I love [Bubba Ho-Tep]. It’s a great movie.”
He's damn right, the first is great, but one of the great things about that first film was that Elvis was really old, and it highlighted how we treat old people and how they treat themselves. Really, it's there, and trust me it adds a lot of weight to the story. The new film is to be set in the fifties and sixties, so no old Elvis.
