Control writer for John Lennon film
The writer of the film Control which looked intensely at Joy Division's front man Ian Curtis, has said that he's writing a film about the legendary Beatles singer John Lennon. Not just that, but it will be a film about the young Lennon.
A film of the young John Lennon, I do wonder if this is going to be a film that fans will really hanker after. Would they not prefer a film about his later years, about the years in the Beatles and under the spotlight with Yoko Ono, or has that side of his life been too explored already in all forms of media?
Matt Greenhalgh wrote Control, which received huge praise and scooped two awards at the Edinburgh Film Festival this year, and he told Manchester Evening News through Digital Spy that his next film will be on John Lennon.
“The film is called Lennon and details John's adolescent years, pre-Beatlemania. It came to me off the back of Control - the producers of Lennon saw Control and then asked me if I'd consider doing their script for them. It wasn't a particularly hard decision for me to say yes.”
Going on the strength of Control and how well that has been received, it seems that Matt Greenhalgh is certainly the man to write the film, I just wonder if there is enough enticement for an audience in his younger years. It would also depend on how young they will be looking.
