Doug Jones reveals Hellboy 2: The Golden Army
Doug Jones has been interviewed primarily about his role in Hellboy 2: The Golden Army and what roles he is playing, and while he does he gives us a little more insight into the secretive film.
Talking of the first film and of his character Abe Sapien he says:
“Abe Sapien dipped out — for the last third of the film, you didn't see him. In this one, he is a major player from start to finish...Abe Sapien was more of a one-note sort of character. In this one, he is showing more range of character traits. He has got a bit of a love interest this time, which is the first time Abe has ever felt that.”
He does have a lot more screen time in this film, and he's far more involved in the plot. This time he gets to fall in love, everyone say "ahh". It also means he's in the whole film, not dipping in and out.
Not only is Doug Jones playing Abe Sapien again, but Guillermo del Toro has him on multiple duties once again. Here he's also playing the Chamberlain, and the Angel of Death, and he says a little too much about the angel character:
“The Angel of Death, especially, has a poignant, amazing, wonderful moment in the movie — when I read the script, I was just like: 'Damn! I love it!' And I think you could see [the Angel of Death] pop up again within the franchise somewhere. I am not going to say any more!”
During the write up of the interview Premiere through Superhero Hype reveal the plot outline:
Hellboy and gang are on a mission to stop the prince of the woodland ghouls, who is hell-bent on retrieving three pieces of a key that will allow him to unlock the might of the Golden Army, a fighting force of invincible metallic soldiers. With two of the pieces already in hand, he must obtain the last from his sister. To divert a war, Hellboy and his troupe must protect the princess, but things get complicated when Abe falls in love with her.
It's an interesting interview where he talks about a few of his other appearances, but it's really Hellboy 2: The Golden Army that we're interested in at the moment. Still, he hasn't given that much away.
