Ferris Bueller to take another day off?

FerrisBueller.jpgI love Ferris Bueller's Day Off, and it seems there might be a sequel in the pipeline. A script has been written by Rick Rapier, a relatively unknown scriptwriter, and has been read by a few studio executives. All the characters from the original appear in the script entitled Ferris Bueller 2: Another Day Off.

It catches up with Ferris on his 40th birthday, he is now a famous self help guru thanks to his "Life moves pretty fast" mantra. However he decides to take the day off on his birthday which causes a few problems, especially for Cameron who is now his business manager. Stuck in the 80's has news from the script of where the other characters are as well:

Ferris' sister Jeannie (Jennifer Grey) is married to the boy she met in the police station (Charlie Sheen). No longer a school administrator, Rooney is still stalking Ferris for revenge. The economics teacher played by Ben Stein now is an airline gate representative. Ferris' girlfriend Sloane Peterson (Mia Sara) is a Hollywood star going through a rough marriage.

I think I'd only be interested in a Ferris sequel if the whole gang were back, especially Matthew Broderick and John Hughes. But then maybe part of the Ferris appeal is that skipping school was always a difficult thing to get away with. Skipping work is way easier....Not that I've done it...honest.

Worst Title Ever. Even though I do like the 'catch up with the characters after they've aged in real time (Francis Traffaut's Antoine Doinel films, Before Sunrise-After Sunset, Clerks 1-2, etc), this concept sounds like something a couple of casual fans could cook up over a lunch of beers and wings. Ugggh.

Not only is this a bad title, it's a bad idea. Period.

I think this is a great idea! I loved the first Day Off movie and would love to see the gang return. I think it's perfect that Ferris is teaching everyone his "Life moves fast" philosophy. I can't wait to see this movie!

Fantastic!! I can't wait!!

Does anybody know what else this guy has written? It’d be cool to read (or see) his other stuff if he could pull this one off.

I did try searching trusty IMDB but he's no where in sight. This is the biggest stumbling block to it getting made, a studio taking on a script from an unknown. You never know though it might spur John Hughes into doing it himself...

Some of these posts are giving off very negative vibes. I think we should give Mr. Rapier a big "You go girl!" or something like that.

Bueller! Bueller!! Bueller!!!

Ferris outsmarted everyone in the first movie and I know I'd like to see what Rapier has in store for Ferris in the sequel. I hope this script is picked up by the people that could make it happen!

I'd go see this. The victory of "they bought it" another time 'round. Niiiiice ...

I don't know I have mixed feelings about this I wan't it to come out but then I don't im scared it might be a flop!
