McQueen biopic on the way?

SteveMcQueen.jpgThe rights to a biopic of Steve McQueen have been obtained by Kevin Kasha of New Line Home Entertainment. The rights cover a book written by McQueen's first wife, Neile McQueen Toffel, called My Husband My Friend. It covers her sixteen year marriage to McQueen between 1956 and 1972.

Variety reports the deal which could see a film on it's way. If any proof were needed that McQueen still has pulling power after his death, his Ferrari car sold last week for a whopping 2.3 million dollars. Expensive car....

I am all for a film of McQueen's life, but it seems the book is more about life as the wife of McQueen than it is about the man himself. I'm sure a film based on the book alone would be great, but I think an all-encompassing movie about the man himself would be awesome. Especially when you consider some of the films he was in and his iconic status in Hollywood. A true life story would work better I think, what do you reckon? And who could play the actor who embodied cool?

I wonder though if seeing the story of the man behind the Hollywood icon is going to dilute what he became to many people.

I think this could show the human and perhaps darker moments of the screen legend, and then maybe he won't be the screen legend he's become.

Oh I forgot this story:

Another of his widows has said that if there is going to be a film about Steve McQueen then she'd love to see Daniel Craig play him. Perhaps only in his older years though.
