Filmstalker: More Cloverfield news

It's all been fairly quiet on the Cloverfield front for a while. After a continuous deluge of websites, photos and the trailer we've heard very little. Well that's about to end, apparently there is an "insider" who has more details on the monster involved in J.J. Abrams film. If you want to know click below.

Dread Central through Cinema Blend has the news on the monster in question and it sounds like this:

It's not Godzilla or Voltron or even Cthulu; anyone expecting there to be some sort of elaborately detailed backstory may be in for a disappointment. Expect an old-fashioned monster movie retold in a very modern Blair Witch sort of way - but with a twist. You see that giant monster that emerges from the ocean to begin laying waste to New York City ... it didn't come alone.

It would seem the monsters chasing people around New York are more, "raptor like", versions of the huge one wrecking all the havoc. Also the film will be more about the people trying to escape, than the monster(s) chasing them. I guess we'll have to wait to find out if it's true.

I think this could dilute the story a little. One big monster is great, but lots of little ones? It does take the scale of the story down, but I can see it affecting the terror value.

i honestly think this is the big mistake that the big american Godzilla movie made.

we've seen this type of monster too often. 3 jurassic park movies, Godzilla, Alien, etc. I hope, for the sake of this movie, that's not the "twist"...

because let's face it. as twists go, that kinda sucks.

Hi There,
I don't know if this is new stuff for you clovefield buffs. But last night I had a party at my house, my girlfriend and I both work in media. So we had some film and TV people round. Anyway, I was chatting to one of the Visual Effects designers for the movie and he told me these facts:

1. "Cloverfield" is the name of the Army Mission that takes place to control the monster.

2. We will only see the monster a few short times in the movie. (Maybe only twice!)

3. The Monster's face has a four cornered mouth. Somewhat like the Predator. It comes from the sea.

4. The fictional drink "Slusho" has no serious connection with the plot of the movie.

Hope these are interesting for you guys. They are genuine facts.

Thanks Beaye, the facts are much appreciated.

I like the Cloverfield name tie in, and I never really considered that Slusho was connected.

I also think it's great news that we're only going to see the monster a few times. It's always better for these things to be unseen terrors as when you do see them your imagination starts applying limits to the terror and your fear.

Anymore, just send them through.
