Stone cancels Bin Laden film

OliverStone.jpgIt seems as though Oliver Stone may have pulled out of his planned Afghanistan / hunt for Bin Laden film called Jawbreaker.

Jawbreaker was set to be Oliver Stone's latest controversial film which would be based on the memoirs of Gary Bernsten, a CIA agent who coordinated the efforts of the CIA and Special Operations Forces, and would tell the story of the hunt for Bin Laden in Afghanistan.

However the latest news is from News of the World through Hollywood Elsewhere that he's not going ahead with the film.

“The director of Platoon and Wall Street has shelved plans to do a film about Bin Laden and Afghanistan, saying the story is changing too fast to properly put to film yet. “Perhaps some day. Bush is a fascinating portrait in psychopathy and I think it would make a great film, and Blair would have to play a supporting role.”

You can understand why he might be turning away from the story just now, events are changing very fast and getting more complicated as the days continue. Perhaps he's waiting for some kind of resolution to the tale, or perhaps the script just didn't turn out the way he had hoped.

For now though, we're not likely to see Stone's take on some of the most crucial points of recent history, and I think that's a shame because the man is a great Director and could give us a superb film. The question is where will he turn his eye to next if not Afghanistan and Bin Laden?
