Stalked: Mortensen in Road, Murphy in Dali and Gervais in Truth

ViggoMortensen.jpgViggo Mortensen is looking to star in Cormac McCarthy's The Road, Cillian Murphy joins Al Pacino in a Dali tale, and Ricky Gervais will co-direct and star in This Side of Truth.

Perhaps this one will turn out to be true. From Variety comes the story that Ricky Gervais is to co-direct and take the lead role in This Side of Truth, the story of another world set in the 1300's where no one has ever lied. An out of work stage performaner tells the first lie ever, realises the power he can control, and begins to set about lying for his own gain. There's a more interesting insight to the film through Gervais' quote:

"My character works in the film industry, where actors are really readers who tell completely factual stories...a loser who's about to lose his job, and who's lumbering through the 1300s. All he's got to work with is the Black Death. But once he lies and pretends he's found lost stories, he becomes the greatest storyteller in the world."

Cillian Murphy has joined Al Pacino in the film about the surrealist painter Salvador Dali according to Yahoo News. Dali & I: The Surreal Story looks from the 1960's to the 1980's and looks at his, and his wife's, relationship with the art dealer Stan Lauryssens who will be played by Cillian Murphy.

Viggo Mortensen may well star in Cormac McCarthy's The Road, a story of a father and son who make a journey through the post-apocalyptic wasteland to get to the coast where they think it will be safe, all the while trying not to get caught be the surviving humans who are now crazy and/or cannibals. The news comes from MTV Movies Blog through Jo Blo.

We've already heard that Joe Penhall has been attached to write the script and John Hillcoat will direct. Will Mortensen star?

Julia Ormond and Jason Isaacs will star in La conjura de El Escorial ("The El Escorial Conspiracy") a Spanish film which is inspired by the political struggles in the 16th century Spanish court of King Philip II. Jason Isaacs will play a traitor against the King and Julia Ormond will play the princess of Eboli - isn't that the disease? The story comes from Variety through Coming Soon. Jürgen Prochnow is also set to star.
