Superheroes get Scary Movie treatment
So we're about to see the Superhero genre receive the same treatment that the horror (and science fiction) genre did with the Scary Movie series as Craig Mazin, David Zucker and Robert K. Weiss bring us Superhero!
Craig Mazin wrote and will direct the film which will rip the comedy right out of the Superhero films we've been used to. Hopefully it will include loads of laughs as well.
Mazin, Zucker and Weiss have brought us the Scary Movie and Naked Gun series, and so there's a mixed expectation here. It could be more of the same, or it could be a hilarious mickey take. I'm hoping for the latter, but then I always do when Zucker is involved – Police Squad and Airplane still stick with me to this day. Interestingly though IMDB don't list Zucker or Weiss as being involved.
The news from Variety is that there's a cast list already, it includes, Drake Bell, Sara Paxton, Christopher McDonald, Leslie Nielsen, Kevin Hart, Marion Ross, Ryan Hansen, Jeffrey Tambor and Brent Spiner.
Yes, Commander Data and Lieutenant Frank Drebin, or any other of their newer (or older) roles you'd care to pick. Considering some of the big names on board do you think they might be having a crack at ensemble superhero films? An early nod to Watchmen perhaps?
