While Naomi Watts is still considering whether or not to star in the remake of the Hitchcock classic The Birds, the Director of Casino Royale is looking to direct.

These are some big names that are rumoured to be attached to the film, but bear in mind that none of them are confirmed or have signed.

Frankly, I think this is hopeful speculation, and I'd be really surprised if Martin Campbell signs up to this after the success of Casino Royale (Filmstalker review).

Still the story from The Hollywood Reporter does have both star and director in some way connected to the film, although there's not “in talks” mentioned as yet so it's early days. Naomi Watts is still holding off apparently until she reads the final script, a clever thing to do I would suggest.

I honestly don't see anything good coming of this version of The Birds, even if it is an adaptation of the original Daphne du Maurier short story it would have to be radically different than the original The Birds, and I mean readically, otherwise the comparisons are going to come out and it will fall short no matter what, even with Martin Campbell directing.
