Charlie Wilson's War preview
There's a little teaser of Charlie Wilson's War online, the film starring Tom Hanks, Julia Roberts and Philip Seymour Hoffman and directed by Mike Nichols.
It is based on the dealings of a former Texas congressman with Afghanistan in their fight against the Russians, and the effects this had in the future.
The little teaser is for the full trailer that is expected to appear in the next few days, and I have to say it doesn't look like the film I had expected, and with the voiceover I'm really confused as to what this is trying to be.
Charlie Wilson, played by Tom Hanks, convinces the CIA to train and arm Afghan rebels so that they can fight against Russian troops. Together with a CIA agent, Wilson is able to provide money and supplies to turn the fighters into an army. An act that could well have contributed to the situation we find ourselves in today.
The teaser for Charlie Wilson's War has the most horrible of voiceovers and coupled with the shots of ladies, including Julia Roberts, in bikinis, it seems more like a light hearted romp than anything more serious. You can see it over at Worst Previews [Flash].
I'm still interested to see the trailer though. I wonder what Mike Nichols can produce with this talent in front of the camera.
