Darfur Now trailer online
I try not to bring politics or real life agenda's in here too often, but when the subject of genocide comes to the fore of film I just can't help it. So here we are in this world once again, another genocide that continues despite the numerous shouts of “it'll never happen again” from organisations such as the UN who pledge that next time...
Darfur Now is a documentary that looks at the genocide in Darfur which, for the first time in history, the U.S. is recognising as a genocide. Well done them, while the U.N. sends someone to investigate and write a report, the U.S. sit around a table and agree to call it a genocide. Meanwhile, people die.
The film follows six different people who are trying to help in some way, from arranging humanitarian aid to expanding people's understanding of what is actually happening. Two of the people involved are George Clooney and Don Cheadle.
The trailer is well worth watching and is very powerful without resorting to any of the usual emotional blackmail shots that we're getting so used to in these kind of films.
