Mann and Smith in Empire

WillSmith.jpgEmpire is a new film that Michael Mann will direct with Will Smith in the lead, although details are sketchy at the moment, the film will see Smith play a global media mogul.

That sort of fits with the title, could it be a modern day Citizen Kane? Far too ambitious, but it could be a great dramatic role for Will Smith who I think has never really held a candle to his performance in Six Degrees of Separation or Ali.

So the news from Variety of the return of the Mann-Smith combination might be a great thing for Smith, pulling him back from the Hollywood blockbusters and tearjerkers for something more substantial.

There’s little other information other than John Logan is writing the script. This is definitely something to watch out for, but then anything from Michael Mann is.
