Stalked: The Soloist, Nightmare Academy and Last Chance Harvey

CatherineKeener.jpgKathy Baker, James Brolin, Eileen Atkins, Richard Schiff and Liane Balaban are joining Last Chance Harvey, a film that already stars Dustin Hoffman and Emma Thompson, while Nightmare Academy from Dean Lorey finally gets a writer and Catherine Keener joins the Soloist.

Nightmare Academy is a novel from Dean Lorey (Amazon.co.uk / Amazon.com) that tells of a place called The Nightmare Academy where children are trained to use their special skills to fight the monsters that attack them in their dreams. Charlie is one of these children, but he's much more powerful than expected and opens up a portal to the Netherworld where the ultimate evil lurks ready to destroy the Earth. The Hollywood Reporter tells us that David Reynolds is set to adapt the story for film which may well become a trilogy.

Last Chance Harvey is a romantic comedy which tells the story of a New York jingle writer who just doesn't seem to get any luck these days, played by Dustin Hoffman. He has an ex-wife, played by Kathy Baker, who has remarried to the character played by James Brolin. and a daughter, played by Liane Balaban. He falls for a diplomat, played by Emma Thompson, at a British wedding and has to contend with her overbearing mother, played by Eileen Atkins. Oh and before I lose the will to live with this story, Richard Schiff plays his boss. Sounds...well...dull. The story comes from The Hollywood Reporter.

Catherine Keener is a superb actress, and the word from Variety through Coming Soon is that she has just joined The Soloist along with Jamie Foxx and Robert Downey Jr.. Joe Wright, of Atonement, is directing early next year, and the story comes from the screenwriter of Charlotte's Web, Catch and Release, Erin Brockovich and 28 Days, Susannah Grant. Based on a series of L.A. Times articles, it tells the story of Nathanial Ayers, played by Jamie Foxx, who was a homeless musician with schizophrenia. The journalist Steve Lopez, to be played by Downey, found Ayers and helped him obtain his dream of playing in L.A.'s Disney Hall.
