Statham leads Crank 2

Crank_Poster.jpgJason Statham is most definitely leading Crank 2, the sequel to Crank (Filmstalker review), according to the film-makers Brian Taylor and Mark Neveldine who will be directing this sequel.

They have also revealed how the film will begin, although really there were only a few options here - prequel, dream or he survived. The directors have revealed the answer and also talked about what the new film will hold.

Crank was crazy. Totally crazy, but it was a good crazy that was hugely enjoyable kind of crazy too, read the review for just how much fun it was, and for how much craziness those writer-directors managed to get in there.

Well they've been speaking on Empire about what's next, and they have the plan for Crank 2 and the star. Yes they confirm that Jason Statham is on board, and he's not dead.

"Jason Statham will return. It's not a prequel, it's not his brother, it's not a dream sequence...It's a true sequel."

So the story is going to continue exactly where it left off? If I may say something without spoiling anything, he was plummeting towards the ground wasn't he?

"We're finding that a lot of people were thinking, 'Oh, Crank 2 can't be done'," adds Neveldine. "But we came up with an idea, we wrote the script, and after the studio read it they couldn't believe that we pulled it off. And of course, the best test was giving it to Jason and Jason turned down every other project so he could do this, start this in the spring of next year. He was so excited, he couldn't believe it."

You couldn't believe it? Well I don't think I can either. I was convinced they were going to have to pull some kind of trick to get him out alive, or just come at the same story idea from a different angle. Well, apparently not, the Chev is going to pick himself up, dust himself off, and keep going.

They also promise that this one is going to be bigger and better.

"It's going to be more sexual, more violent - more of everything."

Fantastic, and that is really what made the first so good. I really hope that they get Amy Smart back as well, that would be the icing on the cake, especially as they are having more sex! Okay sometimes I just have to be a "bloke".

The team sound like they are really going to try and beef up this sequel as they say that you can't do a sequel unless it's more of what the original was, and by more I mean bigger and better.

"...you can't do a sequel and do 60% or 70% of what the original was. You have to go twice as hard. So that's what we're going to do. If we're going to live up to the first one with the sequel - we're taking it WAY past the point of the first one."

Fantastic. That story has just made my day. Now they need to get Amy Smart back on board, get Jason Statham in front of that camera, and start cranking it out.
