Van Peebles to direct own sci-fi script

MarioVanPeebles.jpgYes the title sounds intriguing, and quite out of the blue. Mario Van Peebles is going to direct his own science fiction screenplay called The Uniter.

Apparently Van Peebles has been working on the script for some six years, and that the inspiration for the story comes from his travels in India and the discussions around the Aztec calendar ending in 2012.

The Uniter sees a political fugitive come from the future to his past and trying to teach and prepare a thirteen year old boy how to use the powers he has to unite the warring parties on Earth before it's all too late.

The story from Variety sounds rather interesting, although I can't remember the last time I actually saw Mario Van Peebles in anything decent...can you?
