BIFA 2007 Nominations

BIFA-Award.jpgThe nominations are out for the British Independent Film Awards 2007, and there are some interesting choices this year.

Hallam Foe, Control and Eastern Promises all appear a number of times, and both Daniel Craig and Ray Winstone are set to receive special awards. What's also great is that In the Shadow of the Moon (Filmstalker review) may be missing from the Academy Awards documentary list but it's here for the BIFA 2007 nominations.

The full list from the BIFA site is below and I'm very surprised to see that David Schwimmer is mentioned! It's actually a good list, and the Best Foreign Independent Film has a superb list of films, including Tell No One (Ne le dis à personne) (Filmstalker review).

It's also great to see Ray Winstone winning the Richard Harris award, an actor's name that sits quite well alongside Winstone's career to date. I am very surprised to see Daniel Craig winning an honorary award. I wonder why that is? Just because of his portrayal of Bond? Let's not forget how many other people made that Bond work. I just think that award might be a little too premature for his career.

What do you think, any surprises? I have to say trying to decide winners this year looks a hard task, I don't think I can do it in the limited time I have to write this up! I'm going to mull it over and come back to it. Who do you think should win for some of these categories?

I'm going to take a guess; I think both Sam Riley and Control will be the highlight.
