Cage out, Rourke in for Wrestler
Mickey Rourke seems to have KO'd the horrendous choice of Nicolas Cage playing a Wrestler in the film from Darren Aronofsky called The Wrestler - see what they did there?
Previously the story was out that Nicholas Cage was to star as a wrestler, thankfully that idea was shot down in flames.
I mean Nicolas Cage as a wrestler? He doesn't have the size or presence to pull that off, not at all. Never mind the fact that he's not that great an actor.
Anyway the news is that Darren Aronofsky, who is directing, has decided on someone who could be a fighter much better than Cage, and has tons of acting clout to match, Mickey Rourke.
Here's the blurb from the previous story:
"Randy "The Ram" Robinson, a 1980s-era star pro wrestler who has become a burnt-out shell of his former self. After he has a heart attack during a small-time match, a doctor tells him he could die if he fights again.
In an effort to build a new life, Robinson takes a job at a deli, moves in with an aging stripper and tries to build a relationship with her son. But the prospect of a rematch with his old nemesis the Ayatollah proves too tempting to resist, even if it means risking his life."
Sounds interesting, and especially now with the news from Variety that Mickey Rourke is the man set to be the fighter.
