Cidade dos Homens (City of Men) trailer online
I didn't realise that there was a sequel to City of God in the works, and what's more is that it's actually been filming, so much so that there's a trailer online for the sequel called City of Men.
What's interesting in this film is that the Director of Cidade de Deus (City of God), Fernando Meirelles, who went onto direct The Constant Gardener and is currently directing Blindness, is to be a Producer on the film.
Meirelles also directed four episodes of a television series called Cidade dos Homens (City of Men), which ran for four series, he also produced over twenty of the episodes.
Now I'm not sure what the film version Cidade dos Homens (City of Men) has to do with the television series, and whether or not the film borrows from the show, as I've never seen it. So if anyone is out there who has, please let us know.
"Growing up in a culture dictated by violence and run by street gangs, teenagers Acerola (Douglas Silva) and Laranjinha (Darlan Cunha) have become close as brothers. With their eighteenth birthdays fast approaching, Laranjinha sets out to find the father he never met, while Acerola struggles to raise his own young son. But when they suddenly find themselves on opposite sides of a gang war, the lifelong friends are forced to confront a shocking secret from their shared past."
It looks a powerful film, and hopefully Fernando Meirelles has a strong production say on the film which is directed by Paulo Morelli. Morelli also directed three shows from the City of Men television series as well as writing five episodes - including the three he directed.
Could all this television show work pay off in the film?
