Romero unsure of Diary of the Dead sequel
A little while ago I wrote about the sequel to George A. Romero's Diary of the Dead, a film that is just being completed, and how the studio had already release a synopsis and release date for the follow up.
Now Romero is saying that he's no idea where the sequel talk came from, but that he's interested and that he's not decided yet - doesn't that mean that he's thinking about it?
The studio released word that George A. Romero would be directing from his own screenplay and the even dropped in a plot for the sequel, something that is expanded a little today.
Originally I wrote about how we heard that the survivors from the first film would head off to an island for refuge only to find that it too was populated by crazed zombies.
"I'm not sure where that came from, I wouldn't mind continuing the discussion, but nothing is decided yet. Euphoria seems to have set in even though the film has only screened about six times.
The only way I can see it being worthwhile is if we use the same characters, which would be the first time I have done that. I don't have an idea yet, but if the idea and the money can meet somewhere in the middle, it's possible"
So those last words are perhaps the most revealing, he's saying quite clearly that he doesn't know which way the story would go and how it would continue, and yet the previous story from the studio tells us that he's directing his own script as well as having a release date. It seems that there's a bit of a lack of communication here.
Is there room for another Romero zombie film. Really? Can you honestly tell me there is?
