I really am surprised that the Producers have gone back on what they said some time ago about Terminator going a new direction without John Connor as the hero as they reveal that they really have cast Christian Bale as John Connor in the fourth Terminator film, Terminator Salvation: The Future Begins.

However there seems to be some confusion about the other lead actor and whether he's going to be a Terminator or not. Come on though, surely there has to be a Terminator in it?

Well the Producers Derek Anderson and Victor Kubicek seem to think that the other lead cast member might not be a Terminator, but he could be good or bad...I'm confused.

Let's see what they said over at Entertainment Weekly about Christian Bale playing John Connor and about that lead actor alongside him.

"ANDERSON: ...[Christian Bale ]he was always being considered for Connor. ANDERSON: John Connor is an ongoing, very central character throughout the next trilogy. KUBICEK: Exactly. The mythology, really at the root of it, is the birth of the hero. John Connor is this modern-day, messianic figure that is going to lead our franchise forward. ANDERSON: He's leading the fight for the salvation of humanity against the machines. So he's very important....

ANDERSON: There's gonna be another major costar with kind of equal presence in this installment.

And that costar would play the Terminator character?
ANDERSON: Yes.... Well, it's hard to say. It is a new character introduced in the mythology that's not replacing Arnold [Schwarzenegger]. It's not like he's stepping into Arnold's shoes. It's a completely new character.

Okay, but is it a Terminator — a killing machine?
ANDERSON: No, not really. That's one of the big twists...

KUBICEK: The other lead character is a new figure. [Anderson laughs] And it's questionable if he's an enemy or not. That's not necessarily resolved."

Did you get all that? There's more over at EW from the Producers and the snippet that Arnold Schwarzenegger may well have a very short cameo, but does that mean we're not going to see much of a human Terminator? Are we going to see some human traitor in the camp type stuff with the metal Terminators outside?

I think I'm confused. Still, I'll keep the poll open for now and see who you really wanted Christian Bale to play in Terminator Salvation: The Future Begins...
