Michael Mann and Johnny Depp
It seems that Michael Mann may be working on adapting the novel Public Enemies: America's Greatest Crime Wave and the Birth of the FBI, 1933-34 by Bryan Burrough (Amazon.co.uk / Amazon.com
) for the big screen, and what's even more exciting is that Johnny Depp could well be playing someone like John Dillinger.
The very thought of Johnny Depp teaming up with Michael Mann is an exciting one.
According to the Hollywood Reporter through Coming Soon, Michael Mann was planning on directing Edwin A. Salt, but since he's unhappy with the way the script is currently he has a gap he wants to fill.
Apparently Johnny Depp and Mann are sitting down this week to discuss teaming up for a film based on this novel and about this period of time, the rise in crime, particularly organised crime, during the American Depression.
I think it's a bit early to be able to say that Depp is thinking about playing Dillinger, but still, it would be an interesting choice, for any role.
I'm just thinking of Mann's style with Depp in the driving seat, and for a long while seeing Depp do some straight up acting and not some weird and twisted non-real character.
